  • Part of two-person team covering crime news in the South Puget Sound region for the second-largest newspaper in Washington, and maintained a breaking news blog for the newspaper's website.

  • Cultivated a network of sources in local law enforcement community and routinely broke stories about public safety.

  • Political science and a minor in communication with a journalism emphasis.

  • Worked for almost four years on student newspaper, including as editor-in-chief. Held summer internships at the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick and The Pacific Northwest Inlander in Spokane. Member of President’s Student Advisory Board in spring 2008.

Aerospace Media Awards

  • Finalist for the international 2015 “Best Military Aviation” category for package on retiring the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

The 2010 McClatchy Co. President’s Award

  • Part of a team that was awarded The McClatchy Company’s top award for reporting excellence, presented for articles covering the 2009 murder of four Lakewood, Wash., police officers.

The 2006 Betty Gage Holland Memorial Award

  • National investigative reporting award from the Cox Institute in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. Gave a presentation on investigative reporting at national conference when receiving the award.

Society of Professional Journalists

  • First place for investigative reporting from the Inland Northwest Chapter in 2005.

  • Third place for in-depth reporting in 2005 and second place for breaking news reporting in 2007 from Region 10.
